William V. Padula PhD

PRINCIPAL William Padula, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Health Economics in the Leonard D. Shaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics at University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. His work extensively covers the theoretical foundations of medical cost-effectiveness analysis. He has found innovative ways of combining pharmaceutical and health economics methods with data analytics, health system quality improvement, and drug pricing issues. He has performed innovative comparative effectiveness research in the fields of wound care and hospital-acquired condition prevention, particularly regarding pressure injuries (aka “bedsores”). He also holds adjunct appointments at Johns Hopkins University in the School of Nursing and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Previously, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in health economics at The University of Chicago and led an AHRQ-funded investigation to develop predictive algorithms of patient risk for pressure injury prevention in hospitals. In addition to over 65 scientific publications, he has received the AcademyHealth Outstanding Dissertation Award and several other international recognitions. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) and as a Commissioner for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program.
